Weekend: December 11-13, 2009

Every weekend, I will detail my activities and expenses to provide an example of how to implement a frugal mindset while still having a fun and active life.

I volunteered to grade finals for my friend who teaches at a local university, so I spent my evening doing that and just hanging out at home.

Friday Total Cost: $0

On Saturday, I woke up at the crack of dawn (well, for a Saturday) and ran a 5k in the freezing cold. It seemed like a good idea when I signed up back in November. It was definitely fun though, especially since some of my friends came out and ran/walked in it as well. The race entry was just a toy donation that, luckily, my roomate offered to me so I didn’t even have to go out and buy one. After the race we all went to a near-by diner. However, knowing that their food is just-okay, I only went for the social activity and decided to just eat at home.

Back home, after napping, my friend and I walked around the town of Princeton for the afternoon. I spent $3 on a fancy hot chocolate and $10 on pad thai. On the way home I bought $38 worth of gas. The rest of the evening was spent watching movies and playing video games. It was an exhausting day!

Saturday Total Cost: $51

The weather was terrible on Sunday so I just lounged around for most of the day and made dinner at home. My professor friend came to pick up the exams I had graded and gave me a ridiculous $40 for helping him out. I volunteered because I knew he was busy, I wasn’t expecting any type of reimbursement but I certainly did appreciate it. Later that evening, a friend came over and we watched the newest Star Trek movie and had some Blue Moon’s that were in the fridge.

Sunday Total Cost: +$40

Total Weekend Cost: $11
